Getting into the State Department is a very hard thing to do these days though. If you want to be State Department, this is probably a good route. If you go officer, you would be trying to become a Foreign Area Officer. I highly recommend Farsi/Dari, Pashtu, Chinese, or Punjabi/Urdu as I believe those are some of the highest demand languages for the NSA (take a look at their website and the language analyst job). Hopefully, you will get a language that ends up complementing your current one or one that is in high demand. Why not? I don't know what your current language is, but you might as well spend a year of your contract at DLI learning another language. Personally, I highly recommend trying to go to DLI to learn another language. There are no higher priority missions than what the NSA does. Read about the DLPT 5, it will be determining your language proficiency. Do whatever branch fits you best, but be SIGINT (35P in the Army). r/army /r/navy /r/usmc /r/uscg /r/airforce r/nationalguard r/airnationalguard/ /r/britishmilitary /r/CanadianForces /r/AustralianMilitary /r/TheRoyalNavy /r/Bundeswehr More Related SubredditsĪrmy Linguist here.
